Papyrus Painting - The Broken Golden Nefertiti (2) on Dark Papyrus

Egyptian Papyrus Painting: The Broken Nefertiti (2)

Nefertiti first appears on the scene when she becomes the Great Royal Wife of Akhenaten.

Scholars still debate her origins, some believing that she was a princess from another land.   She gave birth to six daughters. It is possible that she also had sons, although no record has been found of this.
Nefertiti is displayed with a prominence that other Egyptian queens were not. This statue of Nefertiti was found broken into nearly two hundred fragments by the expedition of Ludwig Borchardt in 1912. It had been carved from a single block of grano-diorite but left with its surface unfinished. The location of the find was the house of the sculptor Tuthmose, creator of the famous bust of Nefertiti. Borchardt took the head back to Germany, where it now forms part of the Berlin Museums. The other pieces he left behind at Amarna. They were rediscovered by the present expedition, buried beside the expedition house.

All papyrus paintings are sent with "rough" edges, easily trimmed to fit your framing needs.  Dark papyrus is aged by soaking it in water and letting the sugars age the papyrus, it breaks down the fibers and gives a very old authentic feel.  You may notice that there are some pin holes on the canvas, this is part of the aging process.

*****NOTICE****
Changes implemented by the Ministry of Antiquities requires all papyrus to be inspected by an expert - what this means is that while your order will show as shipped, it may in fact be on hold at the Cairo airport pending inspection. For this reason we are not able to combine papyrus orders with anything else, i.e. papyrus and jewelry, or glassworks etc. If you are ordering something else in addition to the papyrus you must order it separately. We apologize for any delays that may occur, ultimately it is about the preservation of the history of Egypt.
