Nefertiti first appears on the scene when she becomes the Great Royal Wife of Akhenaten.
Scholars still debate her origins, some believing that she was a princess from another land. She gave birth to six daughters. It is possible that she also had sons, although no record has been found of this. Nefertiti is displayed with a prominence that other Egyptian queens were not. Her name in hieroglyphics is enclosed in a royal cartouche, and there are in fact more statues and drawings of her than of Akhenaten. Some have even claimed that it was Nefertiti, not Akhenaten, who instigated the monotheistic religion of Aton. It is around Year 15 that Nefertiti
mysteriously disappears from view. It could be that she
died, although no indication of this exists to this date.
Some scholars think that she was banished for some reason,
and lived the rest of her years in a northern palace.
All papyrus paintings are sent with "rough" edges, easily trimmed to fit
your framing needs. Dark papyrus is aged by soaking it in water and
letting the sugars age the papyrus, it breaks down the
fibers and gives a very old authentic feel. You may
notice that there are some pin holes on the canvas, this is
part of the aging process.
*****NOTICE****
Changes implemented by the Ministry of Antiquities requires all papyrus to be
inspected by an expert - what this means is that while your order will show as
shipped, it may in fact be on hold at the Cairo airport pending inspection. For
this reason we are not able to combine papyrus orders with anything else, i.e.
papyrus and jewelry, or glassworks etc. If you are ordering something else in
addition to the papyrus you must order it separately. We apologize for any
delays that may occur, ultimately it is about the preservation of the history of
Egypt.
